So, I have this roommate who is a Feminist.

I think I might be one too.  But I’m not sure if I’d use that term.

I might just be a Humanist.  I think women should be strong, self reliant, and live in a society with out gender normative phrasing and expectations.

But I also think men should be strong, self reliant, and live in a society with out gender normative phrasing and expectations.

Both genders are effected, so why is it just called feminism? (This is obviously only a rhetorical question.)

Men who lack courage to stand up for what they think is right, or hide behind phrases that sarcastically mock women, make me just as sad as the ladies that are oppressed by their words.

I say I am a feminist even though that means I express humanism.  The problem is Humanism is safe.  No one has a problem with humanism.  But by saying “I am a feminist” I’ve already done something frightening and controversial that challenges people.  I suspect that many feminists feel the same way.
